For the first time in the 15 years, since we started our Haber Family Vineyards project, we submitted our wines for an outside review in June 2020. On the suggestion of one of our wonderful Friends members, we submitted some of our current releases to the International Wine Report. We have never submitted to the many magazine and newspaper reviewers as we deeply trust our followers and we feel they provide our most valuable feedback.
However, after doing our research on their report and their editor, we decided to go ahead and submit our Howell Mountain and Diamond Mountain District Cabernets and Chardonnay. We are so gratified by their very thorough and honest comments - it makes us wonder why we waited 15 years to have a third party taste our wines!
"The 2016 Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from Haber is flat-out stunning. This exceptional Cabernet slowly begins to unwind and evolve in the glass, offering striking aromatics of fresh blackberries and boysenberries along with sweet exotic spices, cigar box, licorice, spring florals and a hint of vanilla bean. The palate is medium-plus to full-bodied and nicely structured, with beautifully polished tannins and a seamless mouthfeel which is backed by a ripe core of crème de cassis leading into the long, supple finish. The 2016 is a total knockout, and nothing short of utterly sensational today, however it should also go on to have a brilliant future ahead, ageing gracefully over the next two decades."
"The 2017 Haber Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is sensational. Dark and brooding, this offers an incredible aromatic display, with loads of cassis and dark cherries followed by Asian spices, smoked meat, loam and toasted hazelnut with underlying hints of espresso and fresh cut flowers all taking shape. On the palate this is full-bodied and incredibly well-structured, with excellent concentration. It continues to impress with its gorgeous freshness and beautiful inner core of ripe dark fruit, which bursts on to the long polished finish. This is an absolute stunning wine from Haber in this challenging vintage and it should go on to age beautifully for many years to come."
"The 2018 Los Carneros Chardonnay from Haber is an absolute stunner in this vintage. It opens with striking aromatics of toasted hazelnut, hay, river stones, key lime and dried white flowers which are surrounded by the beautiful nuances of lemon peel, tropical fruit and honeycomb. On the palate this possesses a medium-plus body which is intense and focused, with a burst of tangy acidity that provides wonderful freshness. It goes on to impress with its tremendous purity of fruit that continues to flow into the savory finish. While this is already simply stunning, this could become even more impressive as it evolves over the next few years."
"The 2017 Los Carneros Chardonnay from Haber is a brilliant showing which opens to a beautiful aromatic profile, with classic nuances of lemon curd, tangerine and honey, accented by notes of brioche toast, matchstick, hazelnut and dried flowers all coming together in harmony. On the palate this possesses a gorgeous creamy texture, with tremendous overall balance. It further impresses with its underlying combination of salinity and minerality that adds even more character and complexity to this remarkable Chardonnay. This is fantastic today, but it also has the potential to evolve beautifully over the course of the next decade."
